Adult Services

Alcohol is Scotland's favourite drug with a large majority of the adult population choosing to drink. However alcohol often causes problems for people at some stage of their lives. TCA is an independent agency, who has offered a service across Tayside for over 30 years can offer telephone, email and face to face support in the local area. Our clients come from all walks of life and contact us for many reasons.

What is an alcohol problem?

Our view is that many people experience a range of very different problems which are related to their drinking, sometimes this is to do with relationships, the law or how you feel emotionally or physically.

Everyone is very different and if you are worried about anything to do with your drinking, then we can explore whether you feel that it is a problem for you … we can give you information and advice about what can be harmful about use, and ways to reduce this harm.

What is counselling?

People experience many different problems related to their own or another’s drinking and we try to work out with you the best way for you to try to sort things out in your life. We can explore whether you want to make changes to your pattern of use and if so ways of trying to do this. Counselling takes place privately with one counsellor and yourself it is not conducted in a group setting. Each session lasts up to an hour and you will decide with your counsellor if you want to continue and how often this will take place.

Art Therapy

At some point in our lives, we may find ourselves overwhelmed by our emotions; these may be difficult to face either by ourselves or with others. Art therapy offers an opportunity to explore these intense or painful thoughts and feelings in a supportive environment.

Art therapy involves the use of art materials for self-expression and reflection in the presence of a trained art therapist. Art therapy involves drawing or painting or making things of your own choice. You do not have to be good at art to do art therapy. It can help you understand how you feel or why you react to situations in your life. It offers the opportunity for expression and communication, and can be particularly useful to people who find it difficult to express their thoughts and feelings verbally. Sometimes words alone do not seem to be enough but images and words together may be able to convey what one wants to say. It can also help people to resolve issues as well as develop and manage their behaviours and feelings, reduce stress and improve self-esteem and awareness.
