TCA Angus Connect is a service to offer information, advice and support to young people who feel that their alcohol and/or drug use is becoming a problem. Anyone living in Angus who is under the age of 25yrs can use this service. We offer group work programs in venues around Angus or one-to-one support if this is more appropriate. The one-to-one sessions are confidential and will support you to make positive changes to your life.
When you are referred to Angus Connect you will meet your resource worker who will set aside time for you to talk about how things are in your life. You may feel that situations in your life are too complicated for you to deal with on your own. Together you and your worker will decide what issues you need to tackle and come up with a plan as to how to achieve this.
As part of our program of projects and group work we have developed girls’ groups; “The Witches Project” and boys’ groups; “Loose Cannons”.

This programme was developed in partnership with local statutory agencies to target young women as a direct response to the growing concerns around increased alcohol consumption and associated risk/ anti-social behaviour. The project uses the story of witchcraft in Angus as a hook to explore female stereotypes, use/ misuse of alcohol and the role of young women in their communities across Angus. With access to the museums and archives, resource workers support participants to undertake historical research and engage in other activities to consider their own drinking and behaviour and its impact on themselves and their community.

With the witches groups being so successful many young men were being referred to our service that would benefit from a similar group for boys. We developed an early intervention program which supported them in looking at their behaviour and their responsibilities towards their local community.
Team building skills and community history are used to widen the young men’s awareness of their community and the part alcohol plays.
Aims are to reduce anti-social behaviour and provide skills to make positive choices. We engaged previous members to mentor the new groups and the boys work towards their dynamic youth or youth achievement awards.
For further information or to refer a young person to the service please contact our office in Arbroath at 20 Keptie Street, DD11 3AF or phone 01241 872989.
